Manufacturing Engineering Manager – NORTH AMERICA, INDIANAPOLIS, IN
Aerodyn Engineering is looking for a Manufacturing Engineering Manager to lead and develop our project engineers across four departments — Manufacturing, Instrumentation, Testing, and Design. This is a senior leadership role: you’ll set the standard for how engineering work gets planned, quoted, and delivered company-wide, partnering with department managers to keep every project engineer performing at a high level, regardless of which team they sit on.
Shift Options:
1st Shift: Monday through Friday
What You’ll Do:
- Serve as the senior technical and process authority for project engineers across all four engineering departments.
- Develop and maintain customer relationships at a strategic level, supporting company-wide growth initiatives.
- Oversee project workload and on-time delivery across all project engineers, regardless of department.
- Standardize and lead cross-departmental reporting and review cadences — Sales Status, S&S, Shipped Order Profitability, Job Closing Accuracy, To Be Quoted, Open Quote, and Lessons Learned — to keep leadership and customers informed.
- Support project engineers across departments in kickoff meetings and customer updates, ensuring consistent technical guidance company-wide.
- Serve as the primary liaison between departments for new product development, labor utilization, and cross-functional problem-solving.
- Review high-complexity or high-risk quotes across departments for profitability and risk mitigation before they reach customers.
- Maintain and drive consistent adoption of the QMS Lessons Learned Log across all four departments.
- Evaluate performance against budget/incentive goals across the engineering organization, partnering with department managers on adjustments.
- Review and approve purchase requests exceeding department manager authority, per purchasing policy.
- Partner with Finance on budget/rate analysis across all engineering departments.
- Build engineering talent company-wide through hiring input, training, mentorship, and performance development of project engineers.
- Provide guidance and direction to project engineers and department managers alike to support professional growth.
- Lead by example to build a consistent, healthy engineering culture across departments.
- Drive continuous improvement, R&D, and process development initiatives that span multiple departments.
- Participate in and complete mandatory labor support as needed to meet customer and financial goals.
What Makes You a Fit:
- You’ve led engineering teams before, ideally across more than one discipline or department.
- You can standardize how work gets done without flattening what makes each department’s work different.
- You’re comfortable being the escalation point across departments, not just within one team.
- You build genuine relationships with customers and internal stakeholders alike.
- You develop people at scale — mentoring project engineers directly and supporting department managers.
What You’ll Have:
- Company-wide visibility and influence over how engineering work is planned, quoted, and delivered.
- A direct line to senior leadership and a real voice in strategic growth decisions.
- A broad, talented bench of project engineers across Manufacturing, Instrumentation, Testing, and Design to lead and develop.
Requirements:
- Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent field.
- 7+ years of experience in engineering and/or personnel management, ideally spanning multiple engineering disciplines or departments.
- Strong mechanical aptitude and ability to problem-solve effectively across a range of complex projects.
- Must be highly motivated, self-directed, and comfortable operating independently as well as within a team environment.
- Must be customer-focused and able to work with customers and understand/respond to their needs.
- Strong PC skills and proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Project, PowerPoint, Word & Outlook).
- Experience managing or coordinating across multiple departments or teams preferred.
